Mayor Hancock to Host Summer Youth
Job Fair and Training Expo

DENVER – Mayor Michael B. Hancock will host a summer youth job fair and training expo to help connect youth to summer jobs and career training opportunities. The Summer Youth Jobs & Training Expo will be held Friday, May 18, from 1 to 6 p.m., at the Colorado Convention Center.

The job fair and training expo will feature more than 50 employers, offering more than 200 positions for youth in a variety of industries. Youth attendees will receive two hours of training geared to strengthen their employability, with topics to include financial literacy, job readiness, healthy relationships and higher education.

“We’re excited to team up with Denver businesses to help hire and train our youth,” Mayor Hancock said. “This expo is a great opportunity to prepare them to be future successes in life as well as productive contributors to our city.”

The fair is open to youth ages 14 to 21. Attendees should bring a resume, come professionally dressed and must pre-register online at www.connectingcolorado.com.

City and County of Denver Park and Recreation Department- Hiring Paid Parks Interns


Graduates,
The City and County of Denver’s Parks and Recreation Department seeks graduating high school seniors to join them as  paid Parks Interns for summer 2012. Parks Interns will work on practical horticultural, forestry, customer service and parks maintenance projects benefiting Denver's urban parks and natural areas while learning specific skills needed for a career in Parks and Recreation. Interns will have a chance to work outdoors in and around parks, park structures, greenhouses, trails, lakes, natural areas and flower beds.

They are seeking good students who have a can-do attitude, an interest in parks, and a love of the outdoors. They will provide the tools - you should be prepared to bring your own sunscreen and water bottle! Be prepared to lift and plant/transplant anything from seeds and new flower sets to 25-50 lb. saplings. Your commitment is 30-39 hours per week for June, July and until school starts in August. This is a paid internship -  $11.38/hour.
