What is Seasonal Hiring?

Many companies hire employees on a short-term basis, or "seasonally".  Employers need extra hands to meet the demands of their customers.
Seasonal hiring takes place during the spring for summer jobs, and during the fall for winter jobs.

Examples of seasonal hiring:
Elitch Gardens
Car Washes
Retail stores for Christmas
Halloween stores
Landscaping
Garden Centers



Start Early!  
Seasonal jobs will be gone by Thanksgiving and by the end of your spring break!
The time to apply is October for the fall, February and March for the Summer!

Pay Attention! 
Make sure you fill out application accurately. Watch out for typos and spelling errors.
Use a Blue or Black Pen!

Apply Everywhere! 
Don’t wait for that one dream job.
The more you apply, the better chance you have of landing a job!


Create a Resume!
A resume is a brief description of your work or volunteer experience, skills, and  
education. It’s a great way for employers to find out more about you. Most employers will require one.

Applying Online? 
Create a professional email address!
A professional email address should have a combination of your first and last name,
such as   Jessica_Smith@hotmail.com or jsmith@hotmail.com.
You can create a free email account on Google,  Hotmail, or Yahoo.

Applying in Person? 
Pack your bag!
Make sure to bring your own black or blue pen and your resume.

Pick Out Your Outfit!
Employers do judge a book by its cover!
Make sure you have a professional outfit for an interview or even if you’re
just going to pick up an application. Not sure what to wear to an interview?

How to Apply??


In Person!
Many companies have online applications, but  going in person gives you a chance to impress!
Start with some of your favorite stores. Check out your neighborhood mall or outdoor
shopping center. Some of the big shopping areas in Denver are:
Cherry Creek Shopping Center on E 1st Avenue
Denver Pavilions on the 16th Street Mall
Northfield Stapleton on E 49th Avenue and Belmar on S Teller Street in Lakewood.
Each of these shopping areas has hundreds of stores and restaurants and is easily accessible by bus.

Think Seasonal!
Seasonal employees are hired to help out with the holiday season gift shopping rush, or for the summer season.
Some of the great places to look for seasonal jobs are: Halloween Costume Stores, big shopping centers, toy stores, candy stores, clothes stores, grocery stores, Target, Walmart, amusement parks,and movie theaters.

Online!
Many companies such as Starbucks, King Soopers, and Jamba Juice want you to fill out an online application.
If you’d like to work at a company, check their website for an application. Fill it out,
but make sure to call or visit in person to follow up.

SnagAJob.com! This website has thousands of part-time retail, fast food and other entry-level jobs.


Keep your Job!
You don’t have to be a terrible employee to lose your job.
Most people get fired because of easy to avoid mistakes.
Use these tips to make sure you keep that job!

Be There! 
Always come on time and let your manager know in advance of any school conflicts or          
appointments. If you finish early, don’t just leave. Let your manager know you need a new project.

Be a Team Player!
Everyone wants to work with people they can depend on.
Help out your coworkers and they will help you out when you need support!

Communicate!
Don’t think you’re being treated fairly?
Ask your manager for a few minutes after the end of your shift to discuss things calmly.
Communicate your  feelings clearly and listen!

Zip It!
Avoid gossiping at work at work at all cost!
Gossip causes conflict and conflict causes people to lose their jobs.

Get Off Your Phone!
 Don’t take personal calls at work, even if things are a little slow.
That means no texting! Keep all personal business for your lunch break.

Smile! 
Customers, coworkers, and managers all love to interact with someone who
is friendly and having fun working with them!
