Summer Urban Agricultural Intern - Denver

Summer Urban Agriculture Intern:

Ekar Farm, a 501 (c) 3 non-profit farm is seeking summer interns for our urban farm in Denver.
Located near Alameda and Monaco, Ekar is now starting its 7th growing season on 2 acres in the heart of Denver.

We are a community based non-profit that strives to transform food consumers into food producers while providing wholesome, local organic vegetables to the Jewish Family Service Weinberg Food Pantry, SAME Café and many other recipients throughout the Denver Metro area.  To date, we have engaged over 10,000 volunteers in growing and giving 50,000 pounds of food to people in need in the Denver area!

Ekar is offering a fun opportunity to gain experience in community-based organic urban agriculture.  Interns will have an opportunity to look inside an urban non-profit farm to see how the organization functions within our community.  The interns will be working directly with our Director of Operations, while gaining experience in organic farming skills including drip irrigation, organic mulches, organic fertilizing, cover cropping, cultivation, general plant care, greenhouse development and much more.

We are seeking volunteers to commit to 10-20 hours per week.  We are looking to add 3-10 interns this Summer from April 1st – October 31st but start and end dates are extremely flexible, please e-mail to ask about different work durations.  Any interested candidates please submit a one-page “letter” explaining why you’d like to intern for Ekar Farm, any previous farm experience (although not necessary), and some information about yourself.  Please submit any letters of interest to Jason@ekarfarm.org.  No experience necessary to apply.

This is a volunteer position (unpaid) but accepted applicants will be able to take home a weekly share of our harvest, enough to feed two adults per week through the entire season, valued at over $500.
For more information, please contact Jason Plotkin at Jason@ekarfarm.org or call (860) 716-9231.
