National Conference in Tampa, FL: July 12-16, 2019  
APPLICANT ELIGIBILITY
To apply to COMTO's CITY Internship program, the applicant must:
  • Be a US citizen or eligible to work in the US
  • Belong to an underrepresented or minority group
  • Be currently enrolled as a full-time student at an accredited institution of higher education
  • Be enrolling as a college junior, senior, or first year graduate student in the coming Fall academic term at an accredited institution of higher education
  • Have, and show proof of, a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or above (on a 4.0 scale)
  • Be able to successfully pass a background and/or drug check    
  • Reside or attend school in the internship area;
  • Able to accommodate a possible summer relocation opportunity 
  • Be available and able to complete the 10-week internship program
  • Be available to travel to, and participate in, COMTO's National Meeting & Training Conference in a major US city in July

APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS
Resume: A 1-page resume that outlines your work and volunteer experience, leadership skills, education, awards, and any transportation-related work or academic experience.
Essay / Letter of Motivation: An essay that explains how participation in the CITY Internship Program will enhance your academic and career goals. The essay must include your specific transportation interests and goals, and must describe the skills, knowledge, experience, and level of interest you will bring to the internship. Applicants with no academic or work experience related to transportation must explain how their experience relates to a career in the transportation industry. Essays must be typed, double-spaced, and no more than 2 pages. Essays that do not list the applicant's name in the header or footer  will not be accepted.
Transcript: A copy of your most recent official academic transcript.
Letter of Recommendation: One written recommendation from your academic advisor, department chair, a professor in your academic major, or your employer, is required; you may submit 2 letters. Letters of Recommendations must have been written within the last 6 months, and must be dated and signed.

  • All fields and attachments are required. Incomplete applications will not be considered.

  • Interns must reside in, or attend school in, the internship area.
  • Former CITY Interns may apply if they meet eligibility requirements, but will not receive preferential consideration.  
  • Applicants may apply to no more than 2 internship locations.
COMTO’s Careers In Transportation for Youth (CITY) Internship Program provides minority college students with a unique opportunity to gain professional and practical experience in the transportation industry. Designed by industry professionals, the CITY Internship program seeks to prepare the best and brightest youth to become leaders, decision makers, and change agents in the transportation industry. 
The CITY Internship Program is a 10-week paid internship open to rising emerging leaders who are college juniors, seniors, and first year graduate students from all academic disciplines. The program is designed to develop interns' professional and teamwork skills, and provide opportunities for leadership and decision-making. Interns are paired with a local COMTO mentor, and placed at a public agency or private company doing business in transportation where they will explore a variety of transportation-related career opportunities.Interns will also attend COMTO's National Meeting and Training Conference for an intensive leadership training seminar in July.

INTERNSHIP PLACEMENTS

  • Interns will be placed at public agencies or private businesses located in/near a city of a COMTO Chapter office.
  • Applicants will be notified of the placement agency or company if selected for an interview.
