Internship: Butterfly Pavilion

Position Overview: This part-time, unpaid intern position will assist the Volunteer Coordinator with a variety of project-based duties. This intern will gain valuable experience with volunteer management and recruitment, public event logistics, operating computer systems, and also gain valuable knowledge about the process and structure of a non-profit.
Length of commitment: Three months (June-August), 10-15 hours per week. Start date is flexible. Intern should be available to help on various event dates throughout the summer.
Key Responsibilities:
· Research and enhance our current community cultivation lists for volunteer recruitment
o Collaborate with local businesses, organizations, and corporations who provide monetary compensation for employee volunteering
· Establish relationships with service and volunteer groups at local high schools and universities
· Assist with maintaining and updating volunteer database (Volgistics) and email list-serve
· Promote volunteer opportunities through online postings on sites such as Metro Volunteers, Facebook, Twitter, Idealist, Volunteer Match, etc.
· Assist the Volunteer Coordinator with supervision of volunteers during Special Events
· Aid in volunteer appreciation and recognition efforts
· Assist staff as needed with special projects
· Engage with guests and visitors
Initial Impact: This intern position will increase the capacity of the volunteer department to connect with more of the North Denver Metro community and start ongoing relationships with groups who support the mission of Butterfly Pavilion.
Sustainable Outcome: By establishing relationships with community organizations, businesses, and schools, the intern will help to sustainably grow the size of the volunteer base that works with Butterfly Pavilion. Through the support of an intern, the Volunteer department will also enhance current communications and community presence.
Training & Support:
· Attend New Volunteer and Staff Orientation to learn about Butterfly Pavilion’s policies, procedures, and customer care non-negotiables
· Learn how to utilize the Volgistics database to track and communicate with volunteers
· Shadow and learn from the Volunteer Coordinator
· Staff available to answer questions and provide additional support
Qualifications:

· High school diploma, GED, or equivalent
· Interest in the non-profit sector, especially volunteerism or hospitality management
· Enthusiasm and patience in working with volunteers of all ages
· Superb written and oral communication skills
· Basic working knowledge of internet social networking tools
· Ability to work with a diverse group of individuals and communities
· Ability to solve problems independently and creatively
