Denver Health Paramedic Division - Teen Explorer Program!

The Denver Health Paramedic Division is very excited that we are FINALLY starting an Explorer Program this summer! If you are not familiar with http://exploring.learningforlife.org/, it is a career exploration program that gives youth (14-21yo) exposure to different fields. Obviously, our Explorer Post will focus largely on EMS, but it will also include introductions to other careers fields within the hospital.

We will have weekly meeting that start at the beginning of summer. We will operate an "Academy" to cover safety and operational topics as well as an introductory level of EMS training. This formal academy will last 8-10 weeks. Further training will continue through the year on the same weekly schedule and will build on previous topics. In addition to our training schedule, explorers will be able to shadow shifts on the ambulance and in the first aid rooms at Rockies & Broncos games and other special events throughout the year. We will provide training and certificates for classes like CPR and First Aid. There will also be opportunities to audit our EMT and Paramedic school classes and lectures. Outside of that, we will coordinate fundraising and community service events.

This program will be ongoing and is a great opportunity for any teen that has an interest in a medical career. Leadership roles and opportunities will develop with the continuation of training and participation. An active and successful explorer will certainly include their participation with this program on their resume and college applications.
