Volunteer with Groundwork Denver in April!

April 2016 Volunteer Opportunities
including Earth Day!

Spring has sprung! That means it's time to gear up for farming season and time to plant trees. Celebrate Earth Day by joining us for one or more volunteer days. Sign up by emailing dele@groundworkcolorado.org.

Also, scroll down to the bottom of this email to sign up for a class on soil heath for the home gardener on April 2nd.  

Saturday April 2nd 

"Waking Up" Celebration Garden with UrbiCulture

Where: Celebration Garden
1650 South Birch Street, Denver
Time: 9am to noon

What:
Volunteers will be helping prepare garden beds and planting spring crops!

Saturday April 3rd
"Waking Up" Sister Gardens with UrbiCulture

Where: 2861 West 52nd Avenue, Denver

Time: 9am to noon

What: Volunteers will be helping to get garden beds ready to seed!


Saturday April 9th
Moondog Farm Volunteer Day with Produce Denver!  
Where: Moondog Farm
2200 Tremont Street, Denver
Time: 9am to noon 

What: Volunteers will be helping prep Moondog Farm for the upcoming farming season!


Friday April 15th
Pre-Earth Day Tree Pick Up 

Where: Volunteers will meet at the Northwest corner of City Park at 23rd Avenue and York Street
Time: 8:00am to 10:30am

What: We need a solid group of 5 volunteers able to lift up to 50 lbs** with relative ease to help us bag mulch and load trees into a truck for the Earth Day tree planting that will occur on Saturday April 16th.

** The trees we are handling will be heavy and we want to make sure volunteers are up to the physically demanding work. 


Saturday April 16th
Celebrate Earth Day by Planting Trees!

Where: Volunteers will meet at the Colorado Miners Community Center 4809 Race Street, Denver
Time: 7:30am to 11:30am 

What: Volunteers will be helping us distribute trees to residents as well as helping some of these residents plant these trees in their yards in the neighborhoods of Globeville, Elyria, and Swansea. Plenty of coffee for the early risers! 


Saturday April 16th

Spring Seeding at Sister Gardens with UrbiCulture

Where: Sister Gardens
2861 West 52nd Avenue,
Denver
Time: 9am to noon

What: Volunteers will be helping to plant spring seeds and starts! There will also be instruction on how to plants seeds in your own home gardens. 


Saturday April 23rd

Celebrate Earth Day "Waking Up" the Columbian Elementary School Garden with UrbiCulture

Where: Columbian Elementary School 2925 West 40th Avenue, Denver
Time: 9am to noon

What: Volunteers will be helping to prepare gardens beds for planting!

Soil Health for the Home Gardener

Where: Sister Gardens
2861 West 52nd Avenue,
Denver

Teacher: Fatuma Emmad, Sister Gardens Farm Manager
Time: 9am to 11am

What: Learn the basics on soil health for your home garden. Having a productive garden always starts with your soil!

Cost: $10-$30 sliding scale.
