Book Trust: Internship

Position: Special Events Intern, Book Trust Reports to: Director of Philanthropic Partnerships, Book Trust
ORGANIZATION OVERVIEW
Book Trust is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose mission is to empower children from low-income families to choose and own books, inspiring a passion for reading, developing literacy skills, and fostering life-long learning. Over 60% of low-income families have no books in the home and access to books is one of the leading predictors of success in school. For $70 per student per school year, participating students get to order $7 worth of books each month of the school year from Scholastic Books Clubs. Typically this is 2 to 3 books a month or 18 to 20 books over the course of the school year. Book Trust currently serves 30,000 students in 10 states. Hawaii is the second largest service area with 6,000 students. Book Trust is a dynamic, rapidly expanding national organization with start-up characteristics.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Special Events Intern will work closely with the Director of Philanthropic Partnerships to execute top-notch special events for the organization, including donor cultivation and fundraising events.
RESPONSIBILITIES · Support Director of Philanthropic Partnerships and events committee in all aspects of an event, including: o Sponsor needs o RSVP tracking o Creating centerpieces, programs and other event collateral o Procuring and picking up silent auction items o Working with volunteers to support event activities o Attend/work at special events as a key staff member · Participate in weekly staff meetings and development team meetings. · Assist with specific projects as needed and other duties as assigned.

Sense of humor is a must. · An effective and open communicator, with high-level oral and writing skills. · A hands-on worker with integrity and a desire to work in a growing and changing environment. · Proactive problem-solver · Working toward a special events/hospitality focused degree of study
