Minor Tobacco Operative (On-Call Part Time) – Community & Behavioral Health - DDPHE


Community & Behavioral Health team has an opening for a Minor Tobacco Operative to assist in conducting inspections for compliance with federal and state regulations banning the sale of tobacco products to minors. The mission of the program is to enforce against the illegal sale of tobacco products to youth with respect to tobacco retail establishments.
Job duties and responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

·       Conduct compliance inspections of tobacco retailers
·       Complete paperwork detailing inspection
·       Travel via car for several hours with a county representative
·       Attend trainings and workshops as needed
·       Develops acceptable work habits and behaviors required in a structured work environment.
·       Performs work procedures related to the assigned work area.
·       Performs other related duties as assigned.

While the full pay range of this Job Classification is $13.00 - $18.98 per hour, our target starting pay for this position is $13.20 per hour.

About You
Our ideal candidate will have:
·       Basic writing, typing, spelling, and reading comprehension
·       Ability and willingness to travel to retail locations, which includes traveling in a car for several hours at a time as part of the inspection process.
·       Must be able to attend trainings and workshop as required
·       Must have the ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed and involved written or oral instructions
·       Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in a variety of situations
·       Ability to interpret reports and regulations and apply information accurately to situations
·       Must have parental consent and consent of school if work is done during regular school hours. Participants may be required to provide testimony in court of law
·       Makes sound, well-informed, and objective decisions; perceives the impact and implications of decisions; commits to action even in uncertain situations to accomplish organizational goals; causes change
·       Currently possesses a 2.0 GPA or higher
·       A non-smoker/non-tobacco user (e.g. chewing tobacco)
·       Readily available with minimal scheduling conflicts (school/extracurricular)
