Social Media Workshop for Parents of Teens
Posted by Goodwill Youth Services on 9:00 AM. online, technology, training -
The Dark Side: The Bad, the Ugly, the Terrifying Truth about Social Media
You know Facebook and SnapChat and Twitter and Instagram. Pintrest and Tumblr and LinkedIn and Google. But do you recall… Kik, YikYak, GroupMe, Slack, WhatsApp, Whisper, FireChat, After School, and Kandid? There are hundreds of social media apps that teens have access to, but like all apps so does everyone else who has a phone. Due to the nature of the teenage brain, they engage in more risky behavior, they also tend to act more impulsively. This workshop will support parents in recognizing the potential dangers of the apps teens have access to and how to encourage teens to be cautious about their use of social media. The workshop will include:
- Examine all the different social media apps
- Discuss how parents can encourage good decisions
- Provide a look at the dangers of the different apps
- Offer ways to keeps up with technology and engaging teens to keep parents up to date
Cost: $25 per person
SPHERE Education online workshops are live with a coach and have limited registration to allow participants to ask questions and provide a more personalized experience.
