The Golden Parks and Recreation Department is a CAPRA
Accredited Parks and Recreation Department and most recently received the Gold
Medal Award from the National Recreation & Parks Association (NRPA).
We are currently seeking the right individual to performs a wide variety of
lifeguard and pool maintenance duties for the City's Aquatics facilities, to
ensure the safety and enjoyment of all patrons in the aquatics area; and
provide rescue assistance and administers First Aid/CPR as necessary.
May be required to work at the indoor facility, the Golden Community Center or
the outdoor facility, Splash Aquatic Park.
Hiring Range: $8.50 -$9.00 per hour D.O.Q.
Salary Range: $8.25-$12.50 per hour
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Maintains a safe environment and facility for the enjoyment of patrons by
establishing and maintaining a positive public relations image for all aquatic
programs and activities.
Educates patrons about pool policies, regulations and requirements.
Guards lap and/or leisure pool(s) and supervises patrons of swimming pool.
Maintains order in swimming areas.
Cautions and advises swimmers regarding unsafe areas.
Rescues swimmers and administers first aid as necessary.
Keeps pools and pool deck areas in safe condition by checking safety equipment
and proper water chemical balance.
Inspects facilities for cleanliness. Performs pool cleaning and maintenance
duties as assigned.
Informs supervisor or senior staff on duty of any staff, patron or chemical
issues that need attention or resolution.
Attends staff meetings and in-service training as required.
Keeps all certifications current and updates to new material as necessary.
Responsible for finding a qualified replacement when it is necessary to miss a
scheduled shift.
May be required to teach in the Learn to Swim program at the Golden Community
Center or Splash Aquatic Park.
Other duties as assigned.
Education and/or Experience:
Must be at least 16 years of age by date of hire. Must demonstrate ability to
swim and perform the requirements of lifeguard. Must possess excellent customer
service and communication skills. Must possess all current certifications
required for the position.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Current American Red Cross First Aid Certification
Current American Red Cross CPR for The Professional Rescuer/AED Certification
(CPR/AED for Lifeguards)
Current American Red Cross Lifeguard Training Certification
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each
essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative
of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and comprehend basic instructions, short correspondence, and
memos. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group
situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the City.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with
10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of U.S.
currency and weight measurement, volume, and distance.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply common sense and to understand and carry out instructions
furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems
involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Ability to
enforce facility rules and regulations as it pertains to safety of the patrons
and surroundings.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Ability to deal with diverse age groups and populations. Ability to deal with
public and staff in a professional and positive manner. Ability to work a
flexible schedule.
MATERIALS & EQUIPMENT DIRECTLY USED
Whistle, swimsuit, rescue tube, spine board, and rescue equipment. Occasional
use of chlorine and daily use of chemical agents. Sunscreen and sun protection
equipment is provided and expected to be utilized when on duty.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be
met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to
focus on the pool environment, sit, talk and hear. The employee frequently is
required to stand, and walk. The employee is occasionally required to reach
with hands and arms; climb or balance in and out of pool; swim, stoop, kneel,
crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50
pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision,
distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust
focus. Ability to hear distress calls above pool noise.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those
an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
Indoor and outdoor pool environment. While performing the duties of this job,
the employee is regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, outside
weather conditions, and extreme heat. The employee is occasionally exposed to
fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals. The noise level in
the work environment is usually loud.
