Saturday, September 28
Help clean up our South Platte River with an in-stream trash pick-up! We'll wade through the River in waders, cleaning up trash that's been sitting in the River. Afterwards, try kayaking down the rapids at Confluence Park with cityWILD! All gear and food for lunch will be provided, and you will get service hours for this event.
 
Saturday, November 16
Spend the day at the Environmental Learning Center (ELC), the environmental education center at CSU. We'll meet CSU students who work at ELC, get a tour of the space, do a small service project, and get to know each other through fun team building challenges.

Summer Literacy and Recreation Program - Now Hiring Teens!!


Scholars Unlimited is hiring for the summer for our Summer Literacy and Recreation/Enrichment program, and we have a summer job that is perfect for you!

We are hiring paraprofessionals, youth development instructors (aka recreation instructors), teens as classroom assistants and swim instructors. The program is June 10th to July 19th, 2019. It is a free full day program for elementary-age students. The program will be held in elementary schools throughout the Denver metro area: SW, central, NE and far NE Denver, Aurora and Westminster.

·         Paraprofessionals work, 8:15 – 11:45, Monday – Friday and earn $13.00/hr for instruction, planning and training.

·         Youth Development Instructors work, 11:00 – 4:30, Monday – Friday and earn $13.00/hr for instruction, planning and training.

·         Classroom Assistants work, 8:15 - 11:45, Monday – Friday and earn $11.10 an hour for instruction and training.

·         Recreation Aids work, 11:00 – 4:30, Monday – Friday and earn $11.10 an hour for instruction and training.

·         Please note: hours may vary at some schools due to busing schedules.

Youth Development Instructors - Scholars Unlimited Summer Program

Be part of the Scholars Unlimited’s caring team of dedicated professionals who serve the youth in our community. Youth Development Instructors provide safe and a nurturing environment which allows the students to grow, explore, develop new skills and discover individual talents. This will be accomplished through fun age appropriate activities with: arts and crafts, hands-on-science, theater, dance, music, non-competitive sports, games, etc.

Executive Internship Program - Application Period closes Aug. 29th

Executive Internship a program for Seniors where in lieu of taking Elective Credits at their high schools they can join the Executive Internship Program and expand their classroom outside of school walls.

The DPS Executive Internship Program is housed at the CEC Middle College of Denver. It is designed to provide students with a unique opportunity to participate in experiential education so they will be better prepared to meet the challenges of the work environment they will face in the future. Students, as interns, obtain a realistic view of the adult business world, and learn to recognize and emulate the personal characteristics essential to professional success.

Students generally complete the internships for 5-10 hours of credit, however the program is designed to allow students the flexibility of earning 5 to 15 semester hours.

YouthBuild Fall Term - Mile High Youth Corps

YouthBuild is a Mile High Youth Corps program in partnership with RiseUp Community School.
  
Corpsmembers develop construction skills while providing a minimum of 450 hours of community service through serving on affordable housing projects; obtain further educational goals and engage in leadership development, civic engagement and college and career readiness activities. 

RiseUp Community School sets  themselves apart by offering:
·         A meaningful curriculum.
·         Student-centered support.
·         Job skills.
·         A flexible schedule.
·         Short, focused classes to earn credits.

Members will:
-Learn construction skills and earn industry recognized credentials while earning a diploma
By serving alongside construction staff and professional trades-people to become familiar with construction tools, vocabulary and methods. During orientation they will receive their First Aid/CPR, OSHA, Multi-Craft Core Certification (MC3), and hands-on technical training related to all construction projects
-Embody change through leadership opportunities
By serving on the Leadership Council, taking lead roles in the classroom and on the service site, and attending the Council of Young Leaders Conference in Washington, D.C.
-Serve your community while earning an income.
Students will attend classes at RiseUp Community School in the morning and work on the construction site in the afternoon.
-Explore further education options.

Besides their Americorps Education Award, Corpsmembers will develop skills and learn about options for college through FAFSA completion, financial aid and enrollment support, scheduled campus visits, preparation workshops, and more. The Education Award can then be used to pay tuition for college, trade schools or certificate programs.

Timeline/Benefits:
•             YouthBuild will start with the new RiseUp semester this fall; Corpsmembers spend 450 hours of service on a large scale affordable housing construction site.
•             $310 bi-weekly stipend and an AmeriCorps Education Award of $1,515 at the completion of the program.
