High School Opportunities this Fall

The Greenway Leadership Corps (GLC) has FREE opportunities for Denver high schoolers to get outside and try somemthing new. As always, these events are free, no previous experience is necessary, and any high school student can sign up! South Platte Stewardship Day

Saturday, September 28

Help clean up our South Platte River with an in-stream trash pick-up! We'll wade through the River in waders, cleaning up trash that's been sitting in the River. Afterwards, try kayaking down the rapids at Confluence Park with cityWILD! All gear and food for lunch will be provided, and you will get service hours for this event.

 

Road Trip to Fort Collins

Saturday, November 16

Spend the day at the Environmental Learning Center (ELC), the environmental education center at CSU. We'll meet CSU students who work at ELC, get a tour of the space, do a small service project, and get to know each other through fun team building challenges.

Women in Construction Management Summer Institute - June 5-9

Black Issues Forum - June 7-11, 2016 - CSU Ft. Collins

Black Issues Forum (BIF) 

Held at Colorado State University Campus, Fort Collins, CO 

June 7, 2016 - June 11, 2016

The purpose of the Black Issues Forum is to provide students an opportunity to demonstrate their written and oral communication skills and to enhance their leadership potential. Participants will have the opportunity to interact with university faculty, staff, and currently enrolled students as they discuss and evaluate the important issues of today that affect the African American community at the local, state, national, and/or global level.

Benefits of attending BIF

• Earn one college credit at no charge for the course “Blacks in Higher Education”
• Participate in small peer group discussions of current issues affecting the African American community
• Experience working in a university library and train in research methods
• Interact with faculty, staff and currently enrolled students of Colorado State University
• Reside in University residence halls
• Take part in social activities, including:
• Awards banquet
• Recreation activities
• An evening of cultural expression and open mic night

STUDENTS WILL BE HOUSED IN THE COLORADO STATE UNIVERSITY RESIDENCE HALLS

THERE IS NO COST TO ATTEND. NONRESIDENT STUDENTS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR TRANSPORTATION COSTS

WHO SHOULD APPLY?

STUDENTS FINISHING THEIR JUNIOR YEAR IN HIGH SCHOOL WITH A CUMULATIVE GPA OF 3.0 OR HIGHER IN A COLLEGE PREP CURRICULUM ARE ENCOURAGED TO APPLY. STUDENTS SHOULD ALSO BE INVOLVED IN LEADERSHIP, SCHOOL, FAMILY AND COMMUNITY ACTIVITIES.
