High School Internship - Southwest Airlines - Summer 2019


Southwest Airlines wants to equip high school students with knowledge in aviation and real world experience.  This is a great opportunity to grow as an individual and be a part of the Fun-LUVing Culture Southwest Airlines is known for.

Interview Process will include the following:
·         Resume Review

·         One letter of recommendation (non-family member)
·         In-person interview
If selected for an interview, candidates will be directed to upload their transcript and letter of recommendation to their profile. Selected candidates will be scheduled to have in-person interviews at the Denver International Airport (8500 Pena Blvd, Denver, CO 80249) on April 6, 2019 between the hours of 9am and 2pm.  Please make it a priority to attend the interview session.

This internship is located at Southwest Airlines offices at Denver International Airport. Below are the internship opportunities for this summer. The tasks included, but are not limited to:  

Human Resources – Recruiting: Recruit, evaluate, and hire the best people to work for Southwest Airlines and help fill open positions with the best talent to keep the company strong and help it grow.

·         Hiring event coordination and planning, scheduling interviews, scanning documents, filling, compliance audit data gathering, data entry and documentation, and assisting with ongoing projects, etc.

Ground Operations: Provide personnel support to Southwest Airlines Employees at the Station by assisting them with functions such as payroll, attendance and leave, staffing, and maintaining personnel records and resources.

·         Assist with printing, filing, event and meeting coordination and set up, locker oversight, assist with day one onboarding, communicate with Internal/External Customers, research projects to support Station goals and objectives, and participate in Culture Events and planning.
Inflight Operations: Help support Base Leadership and Staff by delivering outstanding hospitality and proving administrative support to the Department.
  • Assist Flight Attendants and Base Staff with any assigned duties to coordinate overall Base functions and departmental administrative functions. Examples include providing assistance to phone and in person inquiries; provide support for all Base computers, iPads, software and copiers; assist with Company sponsored events and celebrations; ensure Flight Attendant lounge is neat and orderly and well stocked with required items.
·         Basic Qualifications:
o    Southwest Airlines will consider your interest for the High School Intern position if you are currently a resident of the Denver area
o    To participate in this internship, you must be 16 years old by June 10, 2019
o    Currently enrolled in high school as a Sophomore or Junior status
o    Cumulative GPA of 2.75 or above preferred
o    Must be able to provide your own transportation to/from Southwest Airlines offices noted in the job description above
o    In compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and to complete the required employment eligibility verification document form upon hire
o    Airport position candidates must be able to provide required documentation to obtain a security badge

Additional Qualifications:
o    Classroom experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook) preferred
o    Strong written/verbal communications skills
o    Prior work experience, with a extracurricular activities, and Leadership experience preferred
o    Quick learner, self-motivated, organized, team-oriented, with the ability to work in a fast paced environment with a sense of humor

Time Commitment & Pay:
o    Part-time – 20 to 30 hours per week
o    $11.10 per hour

United Airlines, in partnership with the Office of Children’s Affairs, will be providing professional learning opportunities in the field of aviation. Applicants will be selected as interns to participate in the "United Summer Associates Program," a mentorship program that will include training focused on general customer assistance throughout the airport. This is an 8-week program in which interns will work 40 hours a week and receive payment for their services at $11.20/hour.
Applicants must be:
  • Age 18 at the time of application and reside in the City and County of Denver
  • Graduating high school (or GED) in 2019, or enrolled/attending college
  • Able to provide an original social security card (no copies), a government-issued ID and a birth certificate
  • Legally authorized to work in the U.S. for any employer without sponsorship or future sponsorship
