Position: Wood Shop Apprentice
Reports to: Wood Shop Manager
Status: Non-Exempt
Hours: Part Time (32 hrs/ week)
Compensation: Starts at $9.00 per hour
Position Overview: The Mile High WorkShop, a transitional job-training program, operates a warehouse with sewing, woodworking, laser etching and fulfillment shops. The Wood Shop Apprentice will learn skills related to commercial woodworking. Examples of skills learned include operating a table saw and drill press, assembling various styles of furniture and consumer goods, sanding, staining and finishing/ quality control.
There is also an opportunity to cross-train in other departments as interest or demand dictate. The position is designed to be a transitional learning experience lasting approximately nine months.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Building furniture and other consumer goods out of wood
o Must feel comfortable using hand tools / power tools
o Competent at following instructions
o Cut, shape, join, sand and finish wood components
o Maintain integrity of the build by ensuring wood isn’t warped, cracked, or unusable
Safely operate a variety of power tools including miter saw, table saw, drills, routers, sanders, lathe, drill press and others
Maintain workshop supplies
o Wood, tool upkeep, supply refills, stains, safety gear, etc.
Employee will help maintain a safe environment
o Goggles, masks, gloves, hearing protection, etc.
Measure twice, cut once
