Office of Inclusion and Outreach and Kaiser Permanente Colorado,
Diversity and Inclusion Center for Expertise is now accepting
applications for the Undergraduate Pre-health Program (UPP). Applications will
be accepted through April 1, 2016.
Highlights of this paid work experience include:
- 8-10 week paid internship during summer 2017
- Exposure to many facets of health care (medicine, dental, nursing, pharmacy, etc.)
- Development of skills and knowledge necessary to be competitive and marketable candidates for professional schools
- Lectures, demonstration, laboratory research, and professional development courses led by distinguished professionals
- Possible opportunities to conduct research and visit simulation labs
- Saturday Academies throughout the school year that include an array of topics such as cultural competency, health disparities in underserved communities, access to health care, etc.
- Leadership training through teamwork and collaborative projects
- Coaching and year-round assistance with school application, letters, and writing personal statements
- Mock interviews and opportunity for scholarships for prep courses (MCAT, PCAT, DAT, GRE, etc.)
- The chance to job-shadow health care professionals—such as physicians, nurses, and pharmacists, physical therapists and dentists
Requirements
- Selections are based on academic and professional achievement and an interest in health care professions. Additional requirements include:
- A minimum 3.3 cumulative grade point average
- Completion of at least one year of college (30 or more credits)
- A sophomore, junior, or senior status and enrollment as a full-time student for the duration of the program (2016-2017 academic year)
- Attending an accredited Colorado institution
- U.S. Citizenship or U.S. Permanent Resident status
- A background in biology, chemistry, physics, science, or math is encouraged, but not required**
