Computer Science Summer Institute for HBCU's - Google - apply by April 13th!

Computer Science Summer Institute for HBCUs

CSSI-HBCU is a three week introduction to computer science for incoming first year HBCU (Historically Black Colleges and Universities) students. At CSSI-HBCU, you will have the opportunity to bond with other computer science students from your university and surrounding HBCUs while learning programming fundamentals directly from Google engineers. You’ll design and develop your very own application with fellow participants that you will showcase to Googlers in the local office.

Program Logistics

CSSI-HBCU is a residential program taking place from July 8th to July 28th, 2018 in Nashville, TN and Durham, NC. Students will be considered for one site based on the HBCU they’ll be attending in the fall and cannot request to attend another site. Google will cover the cost of your round-trip flight within the US and Canada, and organize the trip for you. We will also be providing on-site housing and food for students who are selected to attend the program.

1. How do I apply?

2. Who is eligible?

Any first-year student who is intending to major/minor in computer science at one of our partner

HBCUs and starting in the fall of 2018.

3. I will not be a first-year student in the fall of 2018, can I still apply?

Unfortunately at this time, we’re only accepting students who’ll be incoming first year students in the fall of 2018.

4. Are international students eligible?

International students are welcome to apply as long as they meet all the eligibility criteria! Please, keep in mind that Google will only be covering your round trip transportation from within the US or Canada.

5. When will I be notified?

Students will be notified in May after confirming what school they’ll be attending in the fall.

6. What level of computer science is required?

None. This program is for incoming first-year students who’ve had little to no experience

programming and plan to study computer science at their university.

7. What will Google pay for?

Google will cover students’ room and board for the duration of the program, in addition to students’ travel to and from the program.

8. What will the housing be like?

The housing will be dorm-style housing, similar to what students will live in at college.

9. What if I have a conflict that requires me to miss part of the CSSI-HBCU program?

Students selected for CSSI-HBCU must be able to attend every day of CSSI-HBCU. We are unable to make any exceptions. Please, make every effort to be available each day (for example, work with your university to reschedule your orientation session that fits with your schedule). If a schedule conflict arises, please notify the CSSI-HBCU team as soon as possible, so they’ll be able to fill your spot with another student.

Student Leadership Program - Kramerica Gives - Scholarships for Successful Completion!

Student Leadership Program

The Student Leadership Program is an opportunity for youth to be ambassadors for Kramerica Gives and their communities.  The program is comprised of 10-30 students from different schools around the Denver Metro area that have been accepted into the program.  Meetings will be held every two weeks at a central location (TBD) where involvement happens in a variety of ways; different team building activities, introduction to business leaders, opportunity to be a voice in social issues, and talking with a mentor on a regular basis. In addition, there will be some great community involvement events outside of the regular meetings. 

Member Responsibilities

§     Represent the youth of the community and be a voice for Kramerica Gives

§     Treat all Leadership members courteously and with respect

§     Attend meetings, every two weeks, for 2 hours after school

§     Participate in at least two Community Involvement events per semester

§     Contribute and participate during meetings

§     Lead a meeting at least once during the year
