Our Mission is to provide young men a bridge to
the skilled trades through basic training, on the job experience and the
creation of a career path that will enable transition to financial
independence.
The Pre-Apprentice Program recruits young men 18-29 years old to
participate in an 8 week course that includes work ethic, construction math,
financial literacy, career counseling and basic workshop skills along with
field trips and hands on experience in the trades. The students earn a stipend
of up to $150 per week while attending classes, this provides them with the
opportunity to earn while they learn.
The
Apprentices will graduate with a personal portfolio with resumes and
certificates needed to enter their selected trade and targeted interviews with
potential future employers. Our focus is on the six specific trades of
Plumbing, Electrical, Metals, HVAC, Masonry and Carpentry. The goal of the
program is to teach our Pre-Apprentices the fundamental skills needed in the
workplace and provide the basic knowledge required by employers. By providing a
stipend for our students while they learn is the bridge they need to leave the
low skilled/low wage job and enter a formal Apprentice program of their
selected trade. Most of our graduates average $15.00 per hour upon acceptance
into registered apprenticeships.
The Curriculum and class schedule is covered over a
8 week period on Monday through Thursdays from 8am to 3pm. This will allow our
students to have a job on evenings and weekends while attending class. The 4
day class schedule includes; Construction Math (NCCER), -Financial Literacy -The A Game of Work Ethic, Career Track and
Resume writing, Various Field trips to job sites and Apprentice Schools, -Fundamental
Woodworking & Basic Workshop Safety and tool Skills.
