The Denver Foundation – Nonprofit Internship Program –
Applications due Jan. 30th
The Program encourages motivated and highly-qualified
students from communities that are traditionally underrepresented (students of
color, men, GLBTQ college students, first-generation students, etc.) in the
nonprofit sector to become more involved as staff, board member, volunteers,
and donors. Students will:
- Enhance
leadership skills
- Gain
real-world work experience
- Broaden
their understanding of the nonprofit community and the issues addressed
- Discuss
and become familiar with concepts of racial equity and community
leadership
The Program also strives to build the capacity of Metro
Denver nonprofit organizations through a motivated and highly-qualified paid
intern. Organizations will:
- Incorporate
a fresh perspective
- Achieve
short-and/or long-term organizational goals
- Discuss
issues of inclusiveness and racial equity
GENERAL INFORMATION
Selected interns work 345 hours with community nonprofit
organizations and The Denver Foundation over the course of 10 weeks during the
summer. Interns will dedicate 300 hours to their host organization and 45 hours
will be spent participating in other learning opportunities through The Denver
Foundation. Host organizations focus on a wide variety of issue areas,
and all have expressed a commitment to building inclusiveness and diversity
within their organizations. Organizations design internship opportunities that
involve interns in many areas of the work or the organization.
Eligible student applicants must, at a minimum:
- Be an
undergraduate student enrolled in a two- or four-year college or
university located in the seven – county Denver Metro area (Adams,
Arapahoe, Boulder, Broomfield, Denver, Douglas and Jefferson counties)
and/or be a permanent resident of the seven-county Denver Metro area
attending school elsewhere. For example, if you attend college in
California or Colorado Springs but have a permanent address in Littleton,
you are eligible to apply.
- Be a
legally eligible for employment in the United States.
- Have
completed a minimum of 12 credits (or equivalent block, quarter, etc.) by
the time of application with a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or above. (One
quarter credit usually equals .67 semester credits, and one block credit
is usually equivalent to 4 semester credits).
- Eligible
students cannot have already received a bachelor’s degree in another
field.
- Current
seniors are eligible to apply.
