Communications Intern: Mile High United Way

Position Concept
The Mile High United Way Communications team is seeking a Fall intern who will be responsible for assisting various individuals in the marketing department. Duties will involve assisting marketing staff with marketing, research, sponsorship fulfillment assistance, media relations, event logistics, internal and external communications (online and offline) for two of Mile High United Way’s marquee events: The 15th annual Women’s Leadership Luncheon and the 40th annual Turkey Trot 4K race on Thanksgiving morning.
Primary Responsibilities
· Research, proposal preparation and outreach to Colorado companies to interest them in becoming sponsors of the Mile High United Way 40th annual Turkey Trot.
· Assistance with marketing research as needed to include focus groups and online research of prospective marketing sponsors.
· Work with VP of Marketing, Event Manager and Director of Media Relations to assist with storytelling and story writing; online, offline, and possible video production.
· With oversight from Director and VP, write and produce Mile High United Way’s internal newsletter “The Weekly Way.”
· Work with Events Manager to assist in the implementation of events as needed.
· Assist Director and VP with implementation of social media strategy to include Facebook and Twitter.
The ideal candidate will have experience or academic background in public relations, marketing or advertising; knowledge of social issues related to the work of Mile High United Way; Graphic Design experience with InDesign knowledge preferred. Additionally the intern will have strong verbal and written communications skills, attention to detail, and the ability to take initiative and be willing to express ideas. He or she should excel in a fast paced environment and be flexible moving from one project to the next. This position is unpaid, but available as academic/educational credit. The internship runs from early September to December 2013.
All interns must currently be in school or affiliated with an approved institute of higher learning.
