The YMCA of Metro Denver is currently in the process of hiring Unit Leaders for the early release and after school programming at Wyatt Academy for K-8 youth.  Wednesday hours are 1:30 to 4 PM and after school is 4 PM to 6 PM.  See below job description for more details, and please share this info with those you may know who would be interested in these positions!

GENERAL FUNCTION:
Under the direction of the Program Director, the Unit Leader is responsible for the day to day operations of programming, including program development, staff supervision, facility usage and parent relations at Wyatt Academy.  The Unit Leader is responsible for operating the early release and/or out-of-school time programs at Wyatt Academy within the policies and procedures of the YMCA of Metropolitan Denver and will exhibit the core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility in all aspects of their work with the YMCA of Metropolitan of Denver. . Early Release day programming and after school programming incorporates project-based learning practices community projects, youth leadership activities, technology, global awareness, 21st Century skills and entrepreneurial opportunities.  The Program Leader will exhibit a passion for working with youth, community partners, and for the development of the YMCA.

The Unit Leader is responsible for planning, supervising and implementing the overall curriculum at Wyatt Academy for the early release program (Marvelous Wildcat Wednesdays) and/or the after school program. 

The Unit Leader will:
  • Administer attendance and other record keeping responsibilities including distribution of information to parents
  • Support other site staff
  • Work with Program Director, parents and school personnel
  • Assist with marketing the program
  • Plan and implement curriculum for daily activities
  • Administer other responsibilities delegated by Program Director and ensure that the programs meet The Colorado Department of Human Services requirements and YMCA standards.

Must be a minimum of 18 years of age and meet all requirements for Director Qualifications as set by the Colorado Department of Human Services for School Age child care Centers and including a background check.  Must hold current First Aid/CPR certification and obtain other trainings as required by the YMCA of Metropolitan Denver.  The Unit Leader must have strong skills in human relations, curriculum development, staff supervision and staff mentoring.

Interpersonal Duties and Responsibilities:
1.     Implement fun, enriching programming that meets the early release program focus areas of Leadership, Technology, Arts/Culture, Life Skills, and recreation for middle school youth including contributing to the creation of lessons and activities.
2.     Perform and provide excellent customer service skills by exceeding member expectations.
3.     Consistently greet every person who enters the YMCA (by name, if known) and recognize all members and participants when they leave.
4.     Engage students in a way that contributes to the program’s commitment to positive youth development, including creating meaningful leadership and mentoring roles with youth.
5.     Engage in active listening with members and program participants in order to build relationships, understand individual’s goals and interests, and take the initiative to ensure the member has a positive experience.
6.     Provide accurate information about membership and programs.
7.     Be a “Relationship Builder” for the YMCA.  Help prospects and youth participants experience the YMCA by introducing them to others in the Y community.  By creating these interactions, we will demonstrate that the YMCA is a place where we take the time to connect, communicate and engage in respectful and friendly relationships.  Be familiar with the mission statement and core values of the YMCA.  Model the core values while working and communicating with other staff members.
6.   Always have a friendly, helpful attitude and wear a smile.
7.   Actively listen, reflect and respond to customer questions and concerns in a caring manner.  When the opportunity presents itself, go above and beyond to resolve the situation immediately.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
1.     Implement a risk management program to ensure the safety and well being of all children at all times.
2.     Assist with on-going in-service training for program staff. 
3.     Ensure that weekly activities are planned and implemented and variety exists in all activities, which are age appropriate and provide a well-rounded experience for all children.
4.     Maintain accurate documentation related to attendance, medicine, injuries, daily bus logs, log books etc.
5.     Ensure that all classes have appropriate completed paperwork on children, attendance sheets, end of session reports, etc.
6.     Ensure that all supplies and equipment are well maintained.
7.     Provide day to day supervision of program offerings and related staff.
8.     Operate within approved program budget.
9.     Ensure that all staff is trained & knowledgeable in emergency procedures. Hold emergency fire and tornado drills monthly.
10.  Assist the Program Director with providing effective communication to parents and developing a working relationship with parents.
11.  Ensure on-going cleanliness and safety of all facilities used by the program.  Take initiative to clean up/repair areas.
12.  Assist staff with appropriate interactions with children, including discipline procedures.
13.  Act responsibly and be a positive role model for staff, parents and children.
14.  Be knowledgeable and supportive of the YMCA annual Strong Kids Campaign.
15.  Attend all trainings and staff meetings without exception.
16.  Return voice mail and phone calls within same business day.
17.  Responsible for communicating with other program staff.
18.  Must follow dress code and hold staff accountable to dress code at all times which includes staff shirts, name badge and closed-toes shoes.
19.  Must go over parent handbook and emergency procedures.
20.  Follow and enforce all YMCA procedures and policies, including: personnel guidelines, safety guidelines, facility access procedures and membership policies. Carry out emergency plans as necessary.
21.  Assume any additional responsibilities as assigned.

SUPERVISOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Unit Leader will oversee and support program leaders in the early release program implementation.
*Unit Leaders are responsible to ensure that all activities be in a 1-15 ratio and 1-10 ratio for swimming during program hours. 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
While performing the duties of the job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, use hands to handle, feel objects, reach with hands and arms, climb, balance, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk and hear.  The employee must regularly lift up to 50 pounds.  The vision abilities required by this job include close, distant, peripheral and the ability to focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to wet and humid conditions, and outdoor weather conditions which will include exposure to U.V. sun rays.  The noise level in the work environment may be moderate to high.

The Unit Leader position, as part of the YMCA of Metropolitan Denver, will allow for more consistent and quality customer service by making members, participants and guests of the YMCA feel welcome and increase their sense of belonging to the YMCA. Through a safe and fun environment, each child will have a positive and fun experience.  Participants will reach his/her full potential mentally, physically, emotionally and intellectually.  The Day Camp/SACC program will be of high quality and ensure a positive image of the YMCA to the community.
